Joe Goodman Hired as Assistant Baseball Coach

The Marshalltown Community College athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of Joe Goodman as the Assistant Baseball Coach.

"I am extremely pleased and excited to have Joe working with me," stated Head Coach Kim Johnson. "Joe brings a lot of things to the program specifically his former college playing experience and he has experience playing professional baseball internationally. I think he will be great with recruiting and he has a great knowledge of pitching. Mechanically and philosophically, we are on the same page so I have a good feeling of where we can take this program."

Goodman is a native of Gilbert, Iowa where he was active in athletics, leading his baseball team to a runner-up finish in the State Championships as a senior. After High School, Goodman went on to play at High Point University where he became a Freshman All-American in 2012.

After college, Goodman played for the Vic Park Baseball Club in Australia where he holds the record for most strikeouts in a game with 18. He then moved to the Czech Republic where he played for the Astrava Arrows. In his time in the Czech Republic, he was able to break the record for most wins in a season by a pitcher with 12. While playing, Goodman got the itch to start coaching as he coached a U 15 team and also coached the U 21 Astrava Arrows.

Goodman is excited about coaching at the college level stating, "I have been fortunate enough to be able to travel the world, meet amazing people, and learn about baseball. I am excited to be back in Iowa and start a new chapter here at MCC. Coaching at the collegiate level has been a dream of mine since my first year of college. Coaching college sports is truly a unique animal and I can't wait to get to work and help our athletes develop."
