Sophomore Troidell Carter (Lilburn, GA/Meadowcreek) and freshman Mike Rodriguez (Boston, MA/Redemption Christian Academy) of the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team have swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) awards. Rodriguez has been named the Offensive Player of the Week while Carter is the Defensive Player of the Week.

Both players helped lead the Tigers to a 1-1 record last week, including a 66-51 victory over NJCAA Division II No. 13 ranked Kirkwood Community College. MCC fell to No. 10 Iowa Western on Saturday.

Starting his first two collegiate games, Rodriguez proved to be a scoring threat at the guard spot as the rookie scored 19.5 points per game, including a 23-point effort against Iowa Western. Over his last five games, including a win against Waldorf JV on Monday night, Rodriguez has scored in double-figures each game for an average of 17.0 points per game. Rodriguez is shooting 90.9 percent (30-33) from the free throw line over that stretch.

Against Kirkwood and Iowa Western, Rodriguez also averaged 6.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game while pulling down 3.5 rebounds per contest.

Carter anchored the MCC defense last week, posting back-to-back double-doubles, his first two of the season. Against Kirkwood, Carter scored 15 points on 6-12 shooting and tied a career-high with 14 rebounds to carry the Tigers to victory. The sophomore improved on his scoring efforts against Iowa Western, pouring in 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds. With a season-high 21 points against Waldorf JV on Monday night, Carter has scored in double-figures in 13 of the team's 17 games this year and now has eight career double-doubles.

Carter's 12.7 points per game lead the Tigers this year while his 5.9 rebounds rank second.

The Tigers return to ICCAC play on Wednesday night as MCC hosts Southeastern (15-4) at 7:00 PM in the Student Activity Center.
