A Shot to the Dome Brings the Winning Run Home

The MCC baseball team hosted the Spartans of Southwestern Community College at Shawn Williams Field on Wednesday afternoon to close off their eight game conference slate. Entering Wednesday's games the Tigers held a 4-2 record over the Spartans, going 3-1 the past weekend. The Tiger split with the Spartans Wednesday afternoon, dropping the first game and taking the second game in dramatic fashion.

Game One: Lost 13-3

The Tigers were able to strike first in game one, recording four hits that allowed Jose Mieses to make his way around the bases and take the early 1-0. The Spartans responded in the second with two runs and then scored in every inning while limiting the Tigers to a two runs in the seventh inning to take the game 13-3. Elijah Bergeron let the tigers at the plate, going two for three with a RBI. Jose Mieses used his rare athletic ability to stretch a triple and made the trip around the bases twice. Duncan Snider got the start on the mound, pitching five innings, giving up ten hits and five earned runs.

Game Two: Won 8-7

The Tigers struggled early on in game two, giving up five runs in the first inning and two in the third. After 4 scoreless innings and down 7-0, the Tigers started to claw back adding four runs in the fifth, recording seven hits with help from a two RBI double from Elijah Bergeron. The sixth inning saw the Tigers add three more runs, with two coming from a Brodie Paulson home run. David Davila took over for Walter Hernandez on the mound in the fifth inning and pitched three scoreless innings to keep the Tigers in the game in the seventh inning. Jose Mieses led off for the Tigers in the seventh, getting on base and pushed to third with two intentional walks of Brodie Paulson and Elijah Bergeron. With Candido Encarnacion at the plate and bases loaded, he wore a breaking ball to bring Mieses home and record the win. Jose Mieses had a very impressive game, going four of five at the plate and scoring three runs. Elijah Bergeron went two of four, scoring two runs and batted in two runs.

The Tigers continue conference play this weekend, traveling to Council Bluffs, Iowa on Saturday to take on the Reivers of Iowa Western Community College. The Tigers are 0-4 against the Reivers this season, dropping games dropping games on April 5 and April 11. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 2:00 PM.
