Marshalltown, IA—Freshman Estelle Eduardo (Villeurbanne, France/Lycee Ernest Couteaux) tallied a double-double and the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team pulled away from Grand View JV for a 61-57 victory at the Student Activity Center on Tuesday night. The Tigers improve to 9-11 on the year.

Tied at 50 with just under five minutes to play in the game, MCC put together a 6-0 run on a pair of layups from Alyssa Roth (Clinton, IA/Northeast) and a jumper from Loralei Siliga (Euless, TX/San Leandro) to jump ahead. A defensive stop in the closing seconds sealed the win for the Tigers.

Eduardo collected her second double-double of the season after grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds to go with her 20 points. Claudia Morente (Girona, Spain/Institut Juame Vicens Vives) added 10 points and four rebounds. Roth finished the night with six points and eight rebounds.

Siliga contributed with nine points and five rebounds while Sarah Kavanh (Marengo, IA/Iowa Valey) and Barbara Araoz (Neuquen, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) each chipped in eight points.

MCC trailed in the opening minutes of the first quarter, but an 11-0 run, including five from Siliga gave the Tigers a spark and trailed by just one, 17-16 through 10 minutes of play. MCC outscored the Vikings 15-8 in the second quarter as Eduardo, Kavanh, and Araoz did all the damage in the frame to give the home team a 31-25 lead at halftime.

Grand View fought back to take a 37-33 lead, but the margin never got bigger than four for either side until late in the fourth quarter. The two teams traded the lead seven times and forced four ties in the final 11 minutes, but it was MCC that came out on top.

MCC outrebounded the Vikings 52-42, the team's second-most rebounds in a game this season. The Tiger defense limited their opponent to just 29.3 percent shooting, including a 29.4 clip from three-point range.

The Tigers return to Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) action with a road trip to Northeast Community College at 5:00 PM on Saturday night.
