Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team trailed but just three after the first quarter, but the Tigers fell down the stretch to Northeast Community College 71-50 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play at the Student Activity Center on Sophomore Night.

Two sophomores- Barbara Araoz (Neuquen, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) and Dalia Cantu (Monterrey, Mexico/ITESM Eugenio Garza La Guera) were honored following the team's game for their contributions to the MCC program over the past two seasons. Cantu scored eight points while Araoz added five for the Tigers (11-17/0-4).

Freshman Estelle Eduardo (Villeurbanne, France/Lycee Ernest Couteaux) led MCC with 17 points after connecting on four of six three-point shots. The freshman finished the regular season with 19 games in double-figures. Kiana Weston (Skokie, IL/Niles North) added four points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

MCC trailed 9-4 in the first quarter, but Eduardo and Cantu sparked the Tigers with a series of three-point shots to take a 15-13 lead. Northeast (26-3/2-2) jumped back on top with a 21-18 lead after the first quarter, but pulled away for a double-digit advantage at halftime, 41-30. The Hawks continued to maintain its lead and held on for the season sweep.

The Tigers will travel to Northeast for the Region XI Tournament opener as the No. 3 seed on Wednesday night at 5:00 PM. The winner advances to take on top-seed Iowa Western Community College in the championship game.
