Strong start not enough in loss to DMACC

Boone, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team fell on the road to Des Moines Area Community College on Wednesday night, dropping the cross-division matchup 89-60. Freshman Claudia Morente (Girona, Spain/Institut Juame Vicens Vives) led the Tigers with 14 points.

The Tigers got off to a strong start against the Bears, ranked No. 7 in this week's NJCAA Division II poll, leading the home team 13-11 in the opening minutes. MCC held its own in the first quarter and trailed by just one, 15-14 after the opening 10 minutes.

DMACC caught fire to start the second quarter to pull away from MCC. A 12-2 run from the Bears was slowed by a three-point shot from Estelle Eduardo (Villeurbanne, France/Lycee Ernest Couteaux), but the Bears maintained a double-digit lead that carried over to the second half.

MCC never cut the deficit back to single digits as the Tigers dropped its second decision to the Bears this year.

Loralei Siliga (Euless, TX/San Leandro) scored 13 points for the Tigers while Eduardo finished the night with 11.

The Tigers return to Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play at Iowa Western Community College on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM in Kanesville Arena.
