Tiger women drop two games

The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team fell in two games this week losing 78-67 to North Central Missouri College on Saturday, Dec. 7 and 81-68 on Tuesday, Dec. 9 to Southwestern Community College.

In the game against North Central Missouri the Tigers were down only one point going into halftime 26-25 but with two of their starters fouling out, the Tigers struggled offensively in the second half eventually losing 78-67. 

Coming off the bench Rachelle Smith led MCC in scoring with 14 points including 5-6 from the free throw line. Dana Stokes was the only other Tiger in double figures with 13 points before she fouled out of the game. Laurin Lyons led MCC in rebounds with eight followed by Eva Zaragoza with six.

Rebounds were a big factor in the Tigers' 81-68 loss against Southwestern. The Spartans out rebounded MCC 48-28. Carla Collado went 4-8 from the three point range and led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points. She was followed by Lyons with 12 and Eva Carballo with 10. Lyons led MCC in rebounds with seven and Danielle Smith came off the bench to add six boards.

MCC will host Iowa Lakes on Wednesday, Dec. 11 for one final game before the holiday break. Game time will be 5:30 pm.
