MCC women drop two conference games

The MCC women's basketball team played its first two conference games this week and came up short. The offense was struggling throughout both games, only scoring 34 points in Wednesday's loss to Iowa Western and 47 points against Northeast Nebraska.

High scorer in the Iowa Western game was Lauren Lyons with 14 points. In the Northeast Nebraska game, the lack of scoring was obvious in the first half when MCC could only come up with 14 points. The Tigers became much more aggressive to the basket in the second half by scoring 33 points, with Dana Stokes ending up with 18 points overall. MCC hopes to continue being aggressive as they move forward into the week with two games at home.

Monday, Jan. 13 the Tigers were on the road as well at Southeastern. Offense was also a struggle, coming up with 53 points in the loss at Keokuk. Both Eva Zaragoza and Eva Carballo led in scoring with 15 and 12 respectively.

"Until we become more aggressive on the offensive end in scoring, we will struggle to win," commented MCC Head Women's Basketball Coach Steve Garber. "We need players to step up and put the ball in the basket."

The Tigers will play Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 pm vs. William Penn JV and Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 pm vs. Iowa Central.
