MCC women with back-to-back wins

Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team had back-to-back wins this past week with victories over Central College JV on Tuesday, Feb. 4 and Graceland JV on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

MCC came out on top over Central College JV 64-68. Laurin Lyons had a big game with 19 points and 12 rebounds and four steals.  Carla Collado hit four of eight 3-point attempts to finish with 12 points as well.

The following evening, the Tigers defeated Graceland JV by the score of 60-81.  Lyons again had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.  Eva Carballo finished with 15 points as well.  Nuria Castillo was three for six from the 3-point line to finish with nine points.

Saturday, Feb. 8 was the Tiger's last conference game of the season at NE Nebraska. Struggling to score, MCC lost 81-41. High scorer and the only player in double figures was Carballo, coming off the bench to score 11 points.  Shooting only 15% from the 3-point line, MCC was unable to cash in on some good opportunities to score points needed to compete in the game.

"Going 2-1 this week was a positive step forward, especially playing without our high scorer Dana Stokes all 3 games," commented MCC Head Coach Steve Garber. "Some players stepped up in scoring as we all need to contribute on the offensive end to compete at the DI level going into Regional play Feb. 26.  With two games this week and two next week, we hope to gather some momentum before starting post-season."

MCC will travel to Grand View to take on the JV team Monday, Feb. 10 at 7 pm and will host North Central Missouri on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 5 pm.
