#2 Ranked Tigers Start Season 2-0

Coming off of a National Tournament appearance, the 2019 MCC soccer team entered the season ranked #2 in the NJCAA DI Preseason Poll.

Through the first two contests, the Tigers have lived up to expectations.

The Tigers hit the pitch for the first regular season game on August 23 when they traveled to Lewis & Clark Community College. After getting down early by allowing goal in the second minute, the Tigers settled in and scored the next four goals. Jiroh Hatano put the Tigers on the board with an unassisted goal in the fifteenth minute. The Tigers went on to score three more goals, including a second by Hatano to claim a 4-1 lead before giving up a second goal to produce the final score of 4-2, Tigers.

With a single day of rest, the Tigers next defeated Jefferson College 3-1 on a wet field. The Tigers took advantage of two penalty kick opportunities as Matheus Pereira converted both of his penalty kicks. Freshman, Yushi Nagao contributed the third goal as he recorded his first career goal as a Tiger.

"I'm happy with how we played" said Head Coach Rafael Martinez. "Both Lewis and Clark and Jefferson will be tough teams to beat this year.

The MCC soccer team returns to action on Saturday, August 31 when they host Waubonsee Community College for a 2 PM matchup.
