MCC Soccer 2019 ICCAC Honors

The Marshalltown Community College soccer team has received several honors the last couple of days from the Iowa Community College Athletic Association (ICCAC). 

MCC won three games in eight days including their second consecutive Region XI Championship. MCC took a 2-1 victory over Iowa Central, took #1 Iowa Western to penalty kicks and came away with the win and defeated Iowa Lakes in the championship game 1-0.

Four Tigers received ICCAC All-Tournament team including; Yushi Nagao, Matheus Periera, Bruno de Freitas, and Gustavo Leal. Freitas was named goal keeper of the tournament, Pereira was offensive MVP and Leal was tournament MVP.

The ICCAC also released the 2019 All-Region selections. MCC finished fourth in the conference. Leal and Pereira were named 1stTeam All-Region. Jiroh Hatano and Aleix Viladot received 2ndTeam All-Region honors and Cesar Mont and Nagao All-Region Honorable Mention.

Leal and Freitas received ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors for Oct. 28-Nov. 3. Leal helped lead the MCC defense to allow only one goal during the tournament. Freitas played 285 minutes in the net during the tournament including during the penalty kick shootout against Iowa Western.

The Tigers will travel to Laramie County in Wyoming on Saturday, Nov. 9 to play in the North Plains District Championship at 2 pm.
