MCC soccer with 1st round win

The Marshalltown Community College soccer team started Regional Tournament play on Sunday, Oct. 27 and came away with a 2-1 victory over Iowa Central Community College.

The Tigers held Iowa Central scoreless until approximately one-minute left in the game. Yushi Magao had one goal and one assist along with Augusto Cunha with one goal and Sekour Kromah with one assist.

"We started the Regional Tournament against a very good Iowa Central team that required our best effort. I feel we controlled the game and followed our plan to success and I'm very happy with how the entire team defended and the very good scoring opportunities we created," commented MCC Head Soccer Coach Rafael Martinez. "We now face a very big challenge against #2 in the country, Iowa Western at their field. While we know it will be difficult, I believe in my team."

The Tigers will travel to Iowa Western to play on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 2 pm.

MCC also had a 7-1 win last week over Graceland JV. The scoring was spread out among the Tigers. Nago lead scoring with two goals. Seiya Zen, Aleix Viladot, Marco Medeiros, Guilherme Pereira and Jiroh Hatano each had one goal. Cunha led the team in assists with three. Kenlove Solon, Viladot, Gabriel Paixao, Luis Albino and Cesar Mont each had one assist as well.
