Tigers Get Back in the Win Column

Following their first loss of the year, the MCC soccer team avenged their loss in a big way. Taking on Prairie State College, the Tigers controlled possession throughout the game and unleased 22 shots compared to just 2 by the Pioneers. It took until the 23rd minute for the visiting Tigers to get on the scoreboard. But after the opening goal, the Tigers maintained pressure and the flood gates opened.

Gustavo Leal started the scoring with a header coming off of a Matheus Pereira assist. MCC added two more goals in the first half. Pereira put the Tigers ahead 2-0 in the 33rd minute on a penalty kick and Levi Vasconcelos added a header to the back of the net from a Kotaro Hirokawa assist in the 40th minute.

The second half was much of the same as Marshalltown kept the ball away from the home team and netted three more goals. Just three minutes into the second half, Guilherme Pereira beat the Pioneer goaltender from inside the box. Kazuki Kimura and Cesar Mont assisted on the play. Up 4-0 the Tigers added more insurance in the 56th minute with another double assisted goal from inside the box. This time, Rodrigo Velasco scored following touches by Matheus Pereira and Gustavo Leal. Seiya Zen topped the day off for MCC with a penalty kick score in the 81st minute.

Head Coach, Rafael Martinez was pleased with his team following Sunday's game. "This was a very good win after Friday's disappointment of losing a game that, in my opinion, we controlled for most of the 90 minutes" said Martinez. "Today we played another quality match, dominating possession and creating and finishing a large number of scoring chances. Overall, it was a positive weekend. Even though we are only leaving with one win, both performances should serve as evidence that this team is growing at a good rate."
