MCC baseball opens regular season conference play

Marshalltown Community College baseball opened conference play this past week hosting Ellsworth Community College and traveling to take on Iowa Central Community College.

MCC hosted ECC in a double-header on Thursday, March 18. In game one the Tiger got behind early to the Panthers. Nolan Vlcek (0-3) took the loss on the day while pitching five innings with six strikeouts. Jackson Stephen added two hits to his resume while Ronnie Nowak had one RBI. The Tigers fell 12-1.

The Tigers would take game two of the double-header 10-7. MCC got ahead early by adding two runs in the bottom of the first and scattering eight runs over eight innings. Sam Tyrpa (3-1) pitched six innings with 11 strikeouts and one walk. Brock Hatlan got his third save of the year! Bryan Morales and Stephen both had multiple-hit games while Joel Suraganan and Brock Stewart had three RBI's each. 

MCC traveled to Fort Dodge to take on Iowa Central in a four-game series on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21. In game one the Tigers lost a close one in the bottom of the 7th to the Tritons. Gabe Followell hit a home run in the bottom of the 7th to tie the ballgame at 3-3. Stephen (0-3) pitched six innings with two earned runs and three strikeouts. Six different Tigers added a hit to the hit column. MCC fell 4-3.

In game 2 the Tigers failed to put a run on the board losing 10-0. Tritons scored 10 runs in five innings. Four Tigers had a hit in the game. Tyler Lawrence (0-1) got the loss on the day. 

In game 3 the Tigers lose a close 3-2. MCC got walked-off in the bottom of the 7th. Ernesto Moreno Jr had two RBI's on the day. Tom Leathem (0-1) got the loss and pitched six innings and struck out four.

The series against Iowa Central would end in a 9-1 loss for the Tigers in eight innings. Jimmy Kurka (0-1) took the loss and four tigers had a hit in the game. 

MCC will host Indian Hills on Saturday, March 27 at 1 and 3 pm and again on Sunday, March 28 at noon and 2:30 pm.
