Second half surge drops MCC at Turkey Classic

Keokuk, IA—Trailing by just five points at halftime, the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team ran out of steam in the second half against undefeated Johnson County Community College as the Tigers fell 70-51 on the opening day of the Turkey Classic hosted by Southeastern Community College.

Birana McGinty (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech) led the Tigers with 14 points while Sammie Sproul (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) added 13 points and six rebounds. Courtney Williams-Perry (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech) pulled down 10 rebounds on the night.

MCC went into intermission trailing 33-28, but the Cavaliers (9-0), ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA Division II Preseason Poll, posted a 37-23 advantage over the final 20 minutes to drop the Tigers (4-3).

The Tigers return to action tomorrow afternoon at the Turkey Classic against Jefferson College. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
