Sproul earns first-career Athlete of the Week honor

Freshman Sammie Sproul (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) had a career-week for the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team and has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

Sproul led the Tigers to two wins last week, a 67-62 victory over Southeastern Community College on Monday and an 80-60 win at Grand View JV on Thursday.

In the two games, Sproul averaged 20.5 points on 54.1 percent shooting from the floor. Sproul's strong point came from beyond the three-point range as the freshman connected on 61.5 percent of her long-range shots. Sproul also shot 77.8 percent from the free throw line.

Against Southeastern, Sproul grabbed seven rebounds, recorded five assists, and collected three steals. Sproul posted her third 20-point game of her career after scoring 21 against Grand View JV. Sproul also added five rebounds and four assists in the win.

Sproul and the Tigers enter postseason play as third-seeded MCC travels to second-seeded Iowa Western Community College for the opening round at 6:00 PM on Wednesday night.
