Women's basketball rolls past MCC-Penn Valley 84-57

Marshalltown, IA—Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) scored 26 points and Courtney Williams-Perry (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech) posted her fifth-straight double-digit rebounding effort to carry the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team to a convincing 84-57 win over MCC-Penn Valley at the Student Activity Center on Wednesday night. The Tigers improve to 11-7 on the year.

Howe continued to have the hot hand for the Tigers as the sophomore connected on 11 of 18 shots on the night. Over her last six games, Howe is averaging 21.6 points while shooting 58.8 percent from the floor.

Williams-Perry upped her Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) leading rebounding average to 10.4 after pulling down 17 rebounds, with 11 coming in the first half, and seven offensive boards. The sophomore also scored 16 points on 7-14 shooting.

Birana McGinty (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech) chipped in 10 points while freshman point guard Sammie Sproul (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) scored eight points to go along with a game-high 10 assists. Jaden Davenport (Tama, IA/Meskwaki) pulled down 10 rebounds in the win.

 All nine players reached the scoring, rebounding, and assist columns on the night.

The Tigers limited the Scouts to just one field goal in the first 7:10 of the game as MCC jumped out to a 13-3 lead. Ilsie Calles (Van Nuys, CA/Fulton Prep) hit a layup at the 7:48 mark to give the Tigers their biggest lead of the half, 29-13. MCC held the Scouts scoreless over the final 4:28 of the frame to take a 42-21 lead into halftime.

The two sides played an evenly matched second half, but the Tigers controlled the final 20 minutes with a marginal lead. MCC shot 48.6 percent in the second half to pick up their second consecutive win.

The Tigers return to ICCAC play on Saturday with a 7:00 PM matchup against No. 4 and undefeated Iowa Western Community College at the Student Activity Center as part of a doubleheader with the men's team, who also take on the Reivers.
