Tiger women struggle against Bears

A woeful second half doomed the Tiger women against the DMACC Bears in which they were outscored in the second half 53 to 17, after trailing by 11 at the halftime break. The Bears keyed in on taking the 3-point shot away from the Tigers holding them to the lowest attempts and makes through the first three games of the season, only attempting 20 and making 4. The Bears also forced the Tiger Women into 28 turnovers and outrebounding them 46 to 30.

The Tigers could not find a defensive answer for the Bears' top two leading scorers in Grace Flanagan and Magan Christopherson, who both had career-best nights. Flanagan finished with 38 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the 3-point line while adding 8 steals, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Christopherson finished with 21 points and added 4 steals and 5 assists on the contest.

The Tigers got solid contributions from Eva Zaragoza and Heeni Blakey who both finished in double figures for the Tigers in the lopsided loss. Zaragoza scored 13 points and Blakey chipped in 10. No other Tiger player scored more than 5 points in the contest. The cold-shooting that plagued the Tigers last Saturday also crept in this game as the Tigers only shot 25 percent from the field and only 20 percent from three, though the free throw shooting improved to 62 percent from the line.

The Tigers travel to Norfolk on Saturday, Jan. 30, to take on the Northeast Hawks at 1 pm. This will be the Tiger's first matchup of the season against another Division 1 opponent.
