Offense silenced at No. 3 Iowa Western

Council Bluffs, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Baseball team managed just seven total hits between two games on Sunday as the Tigers fell twice to No. 3 Iowa Western Community College on the road in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play. MCC falls to 19-11 overall and 4-4 in league play on the year.

The Reivers got to game one starting pitcher Juan Carlos Gonzalez (Piedra Blanca, Dominican Republic/Salome Urena de Henrriquez) early, scoring three runs in the second inning. Gonzalez entered the day with a 1.57 earned run average and had lost just once throughout his first six decisions this year. Iowa Western added a run in the fourth and one more in the fifth before ending the game early with five runs in the fifth.

Bennett Lopez (Dorado, Puerto Rico/PRBA), Enmanuel Lopez (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Prepara), Logan Holtz (Urbana, IA/Center Point-Urbana) and Diogen Ceballos (La Vega, Dominican Republic/Liceo la Romana) were the only Tigers to reach base in the opening loss.

Iowa Western opened up game two with a pair of runs in the first inning off of starting pitcher Noel Diaz (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/CENAPEC). The Reivers scored in each of the next three frames to pull away as the Tiger offense was limited once again.

Bryan Ventura (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Continental), Luis Duran (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Centro de Estudio Espaillat), and Ceballos recorded singles in the loss.

Sunday marked the first time all season the Tigers were shutout in back-to-back games. MCC had averaged 9.0 runs per game in the team's previous 11 contests prior to Sunday.

The Tigers head to Kirkwood Community College for a pair of nonconference games on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM. MCC defeated the Eagles 5-3 on March 15 in Vero Beach, FL.
