Men’s basketball wins 6th straight

The Tigers Men's Basketball team won their sixth straight contest on Wednesday, Feb. 10th by defeating the NIACC Trojans 75 to 66 despite team-leading scorer Deon'ta Lagway not scoring in the second half.

The Tigers came out shooting hot and got a solid first half from freshman Di'Ablo Stewart who had 16 points to lead the Tigers in the first half, giving MCC a 45 to 27 advantage going into halftime. In the second half things didn't seem to fall in place for the Tigers, but it was solid bench play that kept them in the game and came up big down the stretch.

The Trojans scrapped the whole second half and outscored the Tiger men 39 to 30 taking advantage of situations and forcing turnovers late in the contest and finding ways to keep Lagway from scoring in his spots. Solid bench play from Leonard Wilson and David Roberts Jr. helped the Tigers keep the lead and ultimately win the contest.

Stewart led the Tigers with 23 points and added 5 rebounds and 4 assists. As mentioned, solid bench play helped the Tigers as Wilson scored 14 points in 13 minutes of action and Roberts added 14 points and 2 steals. Roberts ultimately went down with a hand injury suffered on a foul by the Trojans while going for a breakaway dunk. Lagway did make his presence felt, scoring 8 first half points, but also adding 12 rebounds to go along with 4 assists and providing valuable leadership towards the end of the contest.

The Tiger men travel to Council Bluffs on Saturday, Feb. 13th taking on the 14th ranked Iowa Western Reivers at 3 pm.
