Tiger men knock off ranked Reivers

The Marshalltown Community College Tiger men knocked off another ranked opponent this past Saturday, Feb. 13 in the form of 14th ranked Iowa Western, winning 77 to 69.

Playing their first game without bench player David Roberts Jr., the Tigers had to find sparks off the bench. They found that in Zyan Gilmore, Jaylin Scott, and Rusmir Hamzic, while also getting double-digit games from four out of the five starters. The Tigers would find themselves down at halftime 38 to 31, the first time on the Tigers seven-game winning streak. They would battle back and outscore the Reivers 46 to 31 in the second and limit the Reivers scorers who hurt them in the first half and pull out the back and forth victory.

As mentioned, the Tigers had four of their five starters in double figures and were led in scoring by Deon'ta Lagway who finished with 16 points and also grabbed 9 boards. Another strong performance from Leonard Wilson, this time coming in the starting lineup, helped by chipping in 14 points, Nuha Sagnia would also score 14 points and bring down 4 boards as well and Ike Sheppard finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds, while also adding 2 blocks.

The Bench core also stood out with Scott scoring 7 and adding 3 assists and Hamzic and Gilmore chipping in 5. Di'Ablo Stewart, though not scoring like he has the past games, contributed with 8 assists to go along with 5 rebounds and 6 points with 4 coming from the free-throw line.

The Tiger's play at home on Wednesday, Feb. 17th at 7 pm, when they welcome a top 15 ranked Indian Hills team to determine the number one team in the ICCAC Conference Standings.
