Men's basketball season 2020-21 wrap-up

The Marshalltown Community College 2020-21 Men's Basketball season came to an end in the First Round of the ICCAC Region Tournament, losing to the eventually runner-up Southeastern on April 3rd

This concluded the second season for Head Coach Ryan Flack, who improved the overall record of the team in the COVID shortened season. The Tigers finished the season with a 9 and 10 record which showed the growth the program was able to make under Coach Flack and why the program showed vast potential for the next season.

The Tigers started off the season losing to Southeastern at home, but would then go on to have a seven game winning streak before the team was forced to pause because of COVID protocols. They Tigers struggled to recover from the break, going 2 and 9 after coming back from the pause, while having many key players missing games because of injuries.

The Tigers leader throughout the season was Deon'ta Lagway, who led the team in both points (15.1 ppg) and rebounds (7.4 rpg) and was key in keeping the streak alive hitting big shots and ICCAC Player of the Week during the season. The promise of the team is hopeful as four of the Tigers top five scorers were freshman. The Tigers saw double digit scoring from David Roberts Jr. (14.6 ppg) and Di'Ablo Stewart (10.7 ppg), while also having fourth leading scorer and third leading rebounder Nuha Sagnia, possibly returning for a sophomore campaign.

The future is bright for the Tigers Men's Basketball program going into Coach Flack's third season at the helm and the hope that a normal season can be played next year as the program continues to grow.
