Mohamed Thiam collects ICCAC Player of the Week honor

Freshman Mohamed Thiam (Dekar, Senegal/Canarias) of the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team averaged a double-double last week to earn this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor.

Thiam led the Tigers to a pair of wins last week at the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel Classic, hosted by MCC. The Tigers defeated Graceland JV 109-57 on Thursday night behind 17 points and 15 rebounds from Thiam. The freshman filled the stat sheet, adding three steals, three blocks, and two assists while shooting 7-14 from the floor.

In Saturday night's thrilling 77-76 victory over State Fair Community College, Thiam was again dominant on both ends of the court. The freshman collected his third-straight double-double of the season, scoring 12 points to go along with a season-high 16 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. Thiam stood tall on the defensive end in the final seconds to alter a State Fair shot and pulled down the final rebound of the contest to secure the win.

Through the team's first four games this year, Thiam is averaging 11.8 points per game to go along with 11.3 rebounds per contest.

The Tigers have now collected each of the first two ICCAC Player of the Week accolades after sophomore Souf Mensah earned the inaugural honor last week.

MCC is back in action Wednesday night at the Student Activity Center where the Tigers host defending NJCAA Division II national champions Kirkwood Community College at 7:00 PM.
