Sophomore Brandon Simmons (Harlem, NY/Teaneck) of the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Player of the Week. Simmons was honored for his play during the week of Feb 20-26.

The Tigers had just one contest last week, but Simmons carried the team to victory with a double-double. In MCC's thrilling 77-76 victory over conference foe Northeast Community College on Saturday night, Simmons scored 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the year.

In the regular season finale against the Hawks, Simmons connected on three of five three-point shots, his most makes beyond the arc in a game this year, while also going 7-10 from the free throw line. Simmons blocked three shots along with two steals and two assists to fill the stat sheet.

The Tigers' season came to a close Monday night after falling in the Region XI Tournament opener, but Simmons provided another double-double for the Tigers.

The sophomore finished the season averaging 11.7 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game. Simmons' 2.0 blocks per game on the year led the ICCAC.

Simmons is the third Tiger to earn weekly honors from the ICCAC joining Souf Mensah (Nantes, France/Canarias) and two-time winner Mohamed Thiam (Dekar, Senegal/Canarias).
