For the second time this season, freshman Mohamed Thiam (Dekar, Senegal/Canarias) of the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Week.

The Tigers (12-5) went just 1-1 on the hardwood last week, but Thiam provided a stellar performance for MCC. The Tigers fell on the road to Iowa Lakes Community College on Wednesday night where Thiam scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The freshman bounced back on Thursday night and powered MCC with a career-high 34 points to go along with 12 rebounds in a 93-82 victory at home over Iowa Central Community College. In just 29 minutes against the Tritons, Thiam shot 13-17 from the floor, including a 3-5 mark from three-point range. The freshman also hit all five of his free throw attempts to collect his 10th double-double of the season.

Thiam ranks second in the ICCAC in points per game (14.2) and first in rebounds (10.4) and is the only player in the conference currently averaging a double-double.

MCC returns to action after the holiday break on Jan. 9 at Ellsworth Community College.
