Tigers rout William Penn JV 93-48 at home

Marshalltown, IA—All 13 players for the Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team had at least one field goal on Tuesday night as the Tigers rolled past William Penn JV 93-48 at the Student Activity Center. Freshman Nick Cross (Beverly, MA/Beverly) led all scorers with 19 points.

The Tigers (3-0) held William Penn to just two points through the first 5:37 of action and held an 11-2 edge. Cross entered the game at the 15:27 mark and within five minutes, the freshman had 11 points after knocking down three three-point shots to put MCC ahead 22-5.

MCC extended its lead to 27 on another three from Cross with 2:43 left in the first half. The freshman drained one more before intermission to finish the half with 17 points, giving the Tigers a 49-19 lead at the break.

The second half was similar to the first as the Tigers jumped out big. Tyler Miller's (Louisville, KY/22ft Academy) drained a jump shot at the 15:27 mark to give MCC a 61-25 lead. The MCC offense fired on all cylinders throughout the contest, as the lead grew to 40 on a Reggie Gradwell (Marshalltown, IA/West Marshall) dunk at the 7:04 mark. Cross finished off the scoring for the Tigers with a layup with 25 seconds left on the clock as MCC won its third straight game.

As a team, the Tigers shot 50.8 percent from the floor, the third straight game the Tigers have shot better than 50 percent. MCC also shot 52.6 percent from three-point range, knocking down 10 long-range shots.

The Tigers controlled the glass with a 55-33 rebounding advantage. Denzel Ubiaro (London, England/City of London Academy) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds as all 13 players pulled down at least one board. Ubiaro also added seven points and a team-high five assists in the win.

Cross, who came off of the bench, finished the night shooting 7-12 from the floor, including a 5-8 clip from beyond the arc. The MCC bench overall outscored the William Penn JV reserves 62-30 on the night.

The Tigers are off until Nov. 11 when Kirkwood Community College comes to the Student Activity Center for a 7:00 PM matchup.
