Tigers take part in Salvation Army Christmas Tip-Off

The local Marshalltown Salvation Army held its 2015 Christmas Tip-Off to raise funds for the services it supports with members of the Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team in attendance.  The annual bell ringing Tip-Off was held in the Marshalltown Mall outside of Younkers and GNC.

Members of the MCC men's basketball team- Tyler Miller, Vincent Lasley and Guilherme Verardo participated by shooting free throws.  For each basket made a number was revealed until the final goal of $218,000.00 was revealed.

Major Ben Stillwell invited the Tigers to participate.  Dan Huntley, Director of Athletics was very receptive to the idea.  "Any time we can help serve our community, we will try to have some sort of representation in the events.  This was a perfect opportunity for our men's basketball team members to give their time and support in return for the support we get from our community at our games. The Salvation Army is an integral part of the community in how it serves those in need.  The small part that we did play in the 2015 Tip-Off is taken with great responsibility."

"We will support the campaign at the MCC Student Activity Center on December 16 with a Salvation Army bell ringer stand as well as hold a collection and shooting contest to raise money during the half time events of the men's basketball game that evening."
