Christal Malalu named ICCAC Player of the Week

Sophomore Christal Malalu (Eindhoven, Netherlands/Koning Willem I) has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Malalu led the Tigers to a 2-1 record last week.

Malalu scored in double-figures in all three games and has reached at least 10 points in six games this season. Malalu averaged 16 points last week while shooting an impressive 67.6 percent from the floor. The sophomore also averaged 7.0 rebounds per contest.

Making his first-career start at Little Priest Tribal College, Malalu hit nine of his 14 shots to finish with a career-high 18 points and tied a season-high with eight rebounds as the Tigers beat the Warriors 109-66. Malalu shot 7-9 at Ellsworth Community College for 16 points to go along with five rebounds in an 82-78 victory Wednesday night.

The Tigers dropped an 82-81 overtime thriller to Des Moines Area Community College on Saturday, but Malalu kept the Tigers in the game, scoring 14 points on 7-11 shooting. The sophomore scored 10 first half points and finished the night with eight rebounds.

MCC returns to action with a home contest against Central JV at 5:00 PM on Wednesday as part of a doubleheader with the MCC Women's Basketball team which hosts North Iowa Area Community College at 7:00 PM.
