Men's basketball to host House of Compassion Night Feb. 6

The Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team is set to host "House of Compassion Night" at the Student Activity Center on Saturday, Feb. 6. The Tigers take on conference opponent Indian Hills Community College at 7:00 PM that night.

The Tigers have teamed up with the Marshalltown House of Compassion to help raise awareness for those in need throughout the community. The House of Compassion serves residents of Marshall County through a nightly soup kitchen meal, a supply closet that distributes household and personal products, a medical prescription voucher system, and an overnight emergency shelter.

Tickets for the game against Indian Hills will be $10, with half of all sales being donated to the local House of Compassion. Fans are encouraged to attend the game with household items to donate, such as soap and toothpaste.

"We serve 580 families a month," stated House of Compassion director Karen Frowhein. This will be a great opportunity for us as we are always in need of supplies. We have had the men's basketball team serve in our kitchen before, and I feel that this a great way to continue our partnership with MCC."

The Tigers have helped serve dinner at the House of Compassion multiple times over the years, including this past fall.

"Whenever the team comes to help us out, they are struck by the impact they make on those in need," Frowhein added. "It's great when we get to use their services."

MCC head coach Brynjar Brynjarsson embraces the relationship the team has built with the House of Compassion. "We have guys from all over the world join our team that come here and really enjoy supporting our community through the House of Compassion. This night gives us the opportunity to continue our relationship with the House of Compassion while being able to help those in need."

Fans that attend the game and donate a household item will receive one raffle ticket per item for multiple chances to win multiple prizes throughout the night.

The MCC Dance Team will also be performing throughout the night.

The primary sponsors for Saturday's game include Independent Insurance, Shomo-Madsen Insurance, Sports Page, and Iowa River Brewing Company. The men's basketball team is also sponsoring giveaways from the MCC Bookstore.
