Rafael Pereira named ICCAC Goalie of the Week

Marshalltown Community College men's soccer freshman Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundair Vergilio Ferreira) has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Goalie of the Week after leading the Tigers to their first shutout of the season on Saturday.

After securing a 2-0 win on Wednesday against Indian Hills Community College, Pereira and the Tigers are now 5-0-0 on the year and are 2-0-0 in conference play. The five wins to start a season are the most for an MCC team since the 2007 season when the Tigers opened up the year 8-0-0. That team reached the national tournament and finished third in the nation.

Pereira held Northeast Community College scoreless for 81:00 minutes of play on Saturday before relieving the keeper duties to fellow freshman Eion Powers (Fort Madison, IA/Holy Trinity Catholic). Pereira stopped two shots on the day.

The freshman has allowed just three goals through five games of play, with two coming on penalty kicks. Pereira has posted a 0.61 goals against average along with a .831 save percentage, stopping a total of 13 shots.

The Tigers return to action at Scott Community College for an ICCAC matchup at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
