No. 7 Tigers rout Scott CC 16-0 at home

Marshalltown, IA—An offensive explosion kept the Marshalltown Community College Men's Soccer team's unbeaten streak alive as the Tigers defeated Scott Community College 16-0 at home on Friday evening. The 16 goals are the second-most in a single game in program history.

Eight different players recorded a goal on Friday, including three with at least a hat trick. Ellis Buchwald (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) scored three first half goals in the span of 3:42. Alberto Morales (Granada, Spain/Santa Fe DH) tallied three goals in the second half and finished the night with four goals total while Jose Alcazar (Tama, IA/Tama) added three goals of his own.

The school record for goals in a game is 27 which was set in 2007 when the Tigers defeated Indian Hills Community College 27-1 on Sept. 30. Former All-American Arkenson Neckles scored an NJCAA record 13 goals during the match.

Friday's game was the first-time the Tigers have reached double-figure goals since a 10-0 victory over Indian Hills on Sept. 25, 2013.

Sophomore David Gomez (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) registered six points on the day with two goals and two assists. Gomez's goal just 1:36 in to the game proved to be the game-winner. Adrian Gomez (Ponteareas, Spain/Aceimar) and Sergio Beresaluze (Novelda, Spain/Padre Dehon) each scored one goal and registered one assist. Sophomores Isaac Moore (Des Moines, IA/Herbert Hoover) and Eniz Smajlovic (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) scored one goal apiece for the Tigers. Sirleaf Wiah (Brooklyn Park, MN/Prairie Seeds) dished out two assists in the win.

While the goals were plenty on Friday, the Tigers kept the Eagles without a shot, holding a 50-0 advantage in the win. Freshman goalkeeper Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) earned the win while John Spells (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) made an appearance in net for MCC.

The 16 goals matches the total for the previous eight games for the Tigers. Friday's win ups MCC's win streak to six while the team earned its ninth shutout of the season.

David Gomez's goal got things going right off the bat for the Tigers. Buchwald's big night opened at the 14:41 mark, scoring off of a rebound on a free kick. Adrian Gomez placed a shot over the Scott keeper's head from 25 yards out just under two minutes later.

With a 3-0 lead, Buchwald netted consecutive goals in just 37 seconds, with assists being credited to Thiago Fernandes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Dom Oton Mota) and David Gomez. The three goals are the first of the freshman's career at MCC. Alcazar's first score, also his first goal of the season, came in the 30th minute to put MCC up 6-0 while Beresaluze put the Tigers up 7-0 just over three minutes later, scoring on a free kick.

The scoring continued in the first half as Smajlovic received a pass from Morales at the 38:05 mark for his third goal of the year. Just nine seconds later, the two reversed roles as Smajlovic assisted on Morales' first of the night. The Tigers went in to half time with a commanding 9-0 lead.

Morales opened the second half with a goal in the 59th minute for a double-digit margin. David Gomez netted his second of the game three minutes later on an assist from Artur Aguiar (Fortaleza, Brazil/7 de Setembro). Alcazar completed his hat trick with back-to-back goals spanning just five minutes. The five-minute interval continued as Morales netted his hat trick five minutes later, followed by his fourth five minutes after that.

Isaac Moore capped the scoring in the 83rd minute off of a cross from Florian Caraballo (Cordoba, Spain/Medina Azahara). Moore also added an assist earlier in the match.

The Tigers are just one of five teams left in the nation without a loss to their name.

Next up for MCC is a road match at Iowa Central Community College (5-4-0/5-4-0) at 4:00 PM on Oct. 14.
