Tigers defeat Anoka Ramsey 5-1

The MCC men's soccer team defeated the Golden Rams of Anoka Ramsey 5-1 on Saturday. The Tigers came into the day 1-0 and ranked 10th in the latest NJCAA National Poll. Leading the Tigers was sophomore forward Kino Ryosuke who score three goals on the day. Juan Gonzalez also had a solid day as the goalkeeper had four saves while giving up one goal.

The Tigers moved quickly as Evandro Resende scored the first goal of the day in the first few minutes of play. Not to be outdone, Kino Ryosuke followed with a goal, which was assisted by Juan Gonzalez after a long punt found Ryosuke in the opponent's box. Up 2-0, Anoka Ramsey struck back when Louie Elliott broke free to score the Golden Rams lone goal of the day. Following half time Ryosuke struck again with a goal assisted by Pedro Silva and then scored again off an assist from Rafael Vacas. Rafael stayed in action as he assisted in the final goal by Rodger De La Villa.

Coach Martinez was very happy with the way the team performed stating, "I am very proud of how the the group responded to the challenge of playing a man down. We reorganized and kept playing our style, creating quality chances and limiting theirs. Coach Martinez was also happy with the way Ryosuke was able to adjust to playing a man down up front, "Kino was a bit more isolated than normally, but he was still able to get himself into situations where he could be dangerous. I am happy that his work resulted in some goals." Martinez also realized the mid field was a strength in the game. "I thought our midfield was incredible as they had to cover a lot of space both on offense and defense. Overall am extremely happy with our performance and hope we can take this work ethic and 'team first' attitude to our next match against an always challenging NIACC team."

The Tigers move to 2-0 and will take on NIACC in Mascon City on Saturday September 9 and 2:00 PM.
