Late push not enough as MCC falls to No. 7 Iowa Western

Council Bluffs, IA—A strong third game was not enough from the Marshalltown Community College Volleyball team as the Tigers fell in straight sets to No. 7 Iowa Western Community College on Wednesday night. The Tigers fell by scores of 25-13, 25-12, and 25-22.

Freshman Nicole Montgomery (Beaman, IA/BCLUW) posted her second-straight game of 11 kills and has now reached double-figure totals in seven matches this year. Freshman Rieley Rodman (Ankeny, IA/Grand View Christian) registered 19 digs, also her second-straight game with the same total.

Iowa Western (21-5/2-1), ranked No. 7 in the latest NJCAA Division I Volleyball Poll, handled the Tigers in the first two sets, but MCC made things interesting in the third set. MCC built its lead to 21-19, but the Reivers scored consecutive points to tie the game and force a Tiger timeout. Iowa Western came out of the break and was able to pull away in the closing points to hold off an MCC comeback.

The Tigers head to Boone, IA for the Des Moines Area Community College Tournament all weekend long. The four-game weekend begins on Friday for MCC as the Tigers take on Parkland Community College at 11:00 AM followed by a 1:00 PM match against North Dakota State College of Science.
