Mike Rodriguez named National Player of the Week

A day after earning his fourth Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Week honor, Marshalltown Community College men's basketball player Mike Rodriguez (Boston, MA/Redemption Christian Academy) has been named the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

The national honor is the first for Rodriguez, a sophomore, who has earned seven ICCAC Player of the Week honors throughout his two year career at MCC.

Rodriguez averaged 23.3 points per game last week, including three games of at least 24 points. The sophomore averaged 10.0 assists along with 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals while shooting 45.0 percent from the floor and nearly 77 percent from the free throw line.

The sophomore earned the Most Valuable Player award at the 47th annual William R. Bear Classic, hosted by Highland Community College, after leading the Tigers to three wins to capture the championship.

Rodriguez currently leads the nation in total points (413), free throws made (125), free throws attempted (173), and field goals made (134).

The Tigers (14-3) have put together an eight game winning streak. MCC will close out the first half of the year on the road at Iowa Lakes Community College at 7:30 PM Wednesday night.
