Iowa Central drops MCC 9-5 on the road

Fort Dodge, IA—Errors proved to be the primary culprit for the Marshalltown Community College baseball team's loss on Tuesday afternoon as Iowa Central Community College dropped the Tigers 9-5 in a single nine-inning game. Daryl Blaskovich (Brentwood Bay, BC/Lambrick Park) went 2-4 with a home run in the loss.

Taking on the Tritons in a cross-division contest, Blaskovich hit his second first inning home run in the four days to put the Tigers up 1-0. Bennett Mann (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) led off the second inning with a double and came around to score on a groundout from Ryan Thrasher (Sherwood Park, AB/St. Francis Xavier) to double the lead.

Starting pitcher Parker Rolfes (Le Mars, IA/Le Mars) faced the minimum of six batters through the first two innings thanks to a 6-4-3 double play in the second, but the Tritons got to Rolfes with three runs in the third. MCC went scoreless over the next two frames, but tied the game up at three in the fifth with a leadoff double from Aneudis Sandoval (Manati, PR/Fernando Callejo). Freshman Drayson Lum (Victoria, BC/Lambrick Park) laid down a sacrifice bunt, which led to Sandoval scoring on a wild pitch.

The Tritons responded with two runs in the bottom half and added one more in the sixth for a 6-3 lead. Blaskovich drove in Lum in the top of the seventh to chip away at the deficit, but two costly errors in the seventh led to two more Triton runs. Lum scored the final run of the game for the Tigers in the top of the ninth on a Ty Russell (Victoria, BC/Lambrick Park) sacrifice fly.

The Tigers continue cross-division play with a home doubleheader against Kirkwood Community College set to begin at 2:00 PM on Thursday.
