Ottumwa, IA—One day after Marshalltown Community College officially announced its decision to make its move to NJCAA Division I status, head women's volleyball coach Chris Brees signed the program's first recruit- Karissa Wilcoxson, an outside hitter from Ottumwa High School.

"This is a major milestone for us," said Brees. "We're really looking forward to Karissa stepping in and making major contributions to our program."

As a senior at Ottumwa, Wilcoxson played all 96 sets for the Bulldogs, recording 152 kills, second-most on the team. Wilcoxson made the switch to the team's primary setter midway through the season and tallied 159 assists. Wilcoxson also totaled 31 total blocks and 27 service aces, helping the team to a 9-2 mark in conference play.

Wilcoxson was a second-team all-conference selection and was chosen as a tri-captain throughout the 2013 season.

On joining the Tigers, Wilcoxson pointed towards the overall atmosphere of the campus as a primary reason for signing with MCC. "I really enjoyed the small-school feel MCC provided," Wilcoxson stated. "It will give me an opportunity to succeed."

Wilcoxson will continue to play on a national qualifying team throughout her senior season under the instruction of Ed Frederick, former Waukee High School varsity coach. "I look forward to working on my passing during the offseason while improving my overall game."
