Sophomore Souf Mensah (Nantes, France/Canarias) of the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Week. Mensah helped guide the Tigers to a pair of season-opening wins last week.
Mensah opened up the 2016-17 season with his first-career double-double, scoring a team-high 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds in an 84-64 victory over Quakerdale Prep on Tuesday. Mensah knocked down seven of 12 attempts from the field while hitting all five of his free throws. The sophomore also dished out three assists in the win.
In the team's 97-57 victory over Clarke JV on Saturday night, Mensah filled the stat sheet for the Tigers. Mensah scored just five points, but added seven rebounds, including six on the defensive end, along with six assists.
Mensah and the Tigers return to action this week as the team hosts the Meskwaki Classic. MCC opens up the three-day event with a 7:00 PM matchup vs. Graceland JV on Thursday night at the Student Activity Center. The Tigers will also host State Fair Community College at 7:00 PM on Saturday night.
