MCC stumbles on the road at Northeast

Norfolk, NE—The Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team suffered an 81-68 loss on the road to Northeast Community College on Saturday night. Four players scored in double-figures for MCC, led by Brandon Simmons' (Harlem, NY/Teaneck) 15.

An evenly played first half saw the Tigers hold a 23-21 lead, but the Hawks put together a 13-4 run to close out the first half with a 34-27 lead. Reggie Gradwell (Marshalltown, IA/West Marshall) hit a three to pull MCC with six in the second half, 52-46, but Northeast built back its lead and extended the margin to double-digits for the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) win.

Along with his 15 points, Simmons pulled down 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year. Freshman Mohamed Thiam (Dekar, Senegal/Canarias) scored 13 points and added a team-high 14 rebounds to give him 12 double-doubles on the season. Thiam is the only player in the ICCAC averaging a double-double, leading the league with 10.0 rebounds per game and ranks second with 14.5 points per game.

Jamir Coleman (San Antonio, TX/Pro Vision) and Floyd Preito (Philadelphia, PA/Constitution) each added 11 points in the loss.

MCC hosts Southeastern Community College at 7:00 PM on Wednesday night in an ICCAC matchup at the Student Activity Center.
