Members of the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team spent time at the East Marshall elementary school Career Day on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore Souf Mensah (Nantes, France/Canarias) and freshmen Juan Coffi (Barcelona, Spain/Canarias), Berk Karadan (Izmir, Turkey/Izmir Zubeyde), and Mohamed Thiam (Dekar, Senegal/Canarias) focused on the importance of academics and integrated basketball concepts to classroom habits.

"It was great to get out to the school and interact with the young children," Mensah stated. "They're a very young group of kids and we really enjoyed showing them basic concepts of learning while using basketball as a resource."

"This was really the first time I was able to get out in the community and see what the town is really like," Thiam said. "I really enjoyed being able to spend time with the kids and get to know them through the game of basketball."

The four Tigers in attendance all hail from foreign countries. "They thought it was pretty cool that we were all from different parts of the world," Mensah exclaimed.
