2016-17 NJCAA All-Region XI Team

The Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team placed three players on the NJCAA Division I All-Region XI team, announced by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Brandon Simmons (Harlem, NY/Teaneck) and freshman Jamir Coleman (San Antonio, TX/Pro Vision) were second-team selections while freshman Mohamed Thiam (Dekar, Senegal/Canarias) was named to the honorable mention team. A total of 20 players from across the region were honored with postseason accolades.

MCC posted a 17-12 overall record on the year and went 3-5 in ICCAC contests behind the play of the three all-region picks. The three combined to score 47.9 percent of the team's scoring this year and pulled down 50.7 percent of the team's rebounds.

In his first and only season at MCC, Simmons provided a solid presence on both ends of the court, especially in league games. The sophomore averaged 11.7 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game overall, and produced seven double-doubles. Simmons upped his scoring to 14.8 points in conference-only games. Simmons led the ICCAC with 2.0 blocks per game and ranked fourth in rebounding.

Coleman ranked second on the team with 12.1 points per game and went for double-figures in six of the eight conference games on the year and 19 games overall on the yseason. The freshman ranked second in the ICCAC with a 78.9 free throw percentage.

Thiam led MCC in both points and rebounds on the year, ranking second in the ICCAC with 14.2 points per game and led the league with 10.1 rebounds per contest which also ranked 19th in the nation. The freshman posted 14 double-doubles on the year, with four coming in league games.
