Varsity reserve shuts down Simpson JV at home

Marshalltown, IA—Freshmen Berk Karadan (Izmir, Turkey/Izmir Zubeyde) and Treatment Ruot (Des Moines, IA/East) combined to score 46 points and grab 24 rebounds as the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball varsity reserve team cruised to a 66-53 home victory over Simpson JV on Thursday night.

Karadan posted 25 points on 10-18 shooting to go along with 17 rebounds, both team-highs. The freshman also grabbed seven offensive rebounds and blocked four shots. Ruot found ways to get to the basket throughout the course of the night and finished with 21 points and seven rebounds. Ruot also dished out a team-high five assists.

Marquas Gafeney (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo East) added seven points and four rebounds for the Tigers.

MCC built a 10-3 lead in the opening half and the Storm could never cut the deficit to less than four the rest of the way. A layup from Karadan with under a minute to play in the half gave the Tigers a 34-18 lead and went into halftime leading 36-22. The Tigers led by as many as 18 in the second to pull away for the victory.

The MCC varsity reserve squad continues its home-stand on Dec. 13 as the Tigers host Cornell JV at 7:00 PM.
