St. Louis, MO—Freshman Alyssa Roth (Clinton, IA/Northeast) scored a career-high 19 points, but the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team fell on the road 79-66 to St. Louis Community College on Tuesday night.
Roth connected on six of her 10 field goal attempts, including both three-point shots to lead the Tigers. The freshman also went 5-5 at the free throw line to up her team-high percentage to 72.2 from the charity stripe. Loralei Siliga (Euless, TX/San Leandro) joined Roth in double-digits for the second consecutive night with 17 while Estelle Eduardo (Villeurbanne, France/Lycee Ernest Couteaux) added 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Tiger offense struggled to get things going in the first quarter as the Archers took a 21-8 lead through 10 minutes of play. MCC bounced back in the second frame, but trailed 43-29 at halftime.
MCC inched closer in the third quarter after shooting an efficient 64.2 percent in the frame while connecting on four of the team's eight three-point shots. Despite outscoring the Archers, MCC still trailed by double-digits and could not overcome the deficit in the final quarter.
The Tigers make their first home appearance in 2017 on Saturday afternoon against John Wood Community College. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM in the Student Activity Center.
