Tigers host conference foe Southeastern on Sophomore Night

The Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team wraps up its home regular season schedule Wednesday night as the Tigers host Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) foe Southeastern Community College at 7:00 PM in the Student Activity Center.

Wednesday night's game will also be the final home regular season game for six sophomores- Vincent Lasley (Tama, IA/South Tama), Amir Maddred (Camden, NJ/Camden), Christal Malalu (Eindhoven, Netherlands, Koning Willem I), Tyler Miller (Louisville, KY/22ft Academy), Paulius Sakinis (Klaipeda, Lithuania/Lourdes Central Catholic), and Guilherme Verardo (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Esporte Clube Pinheiros). Each sophomore will be honored prior to the star of Wednesday's game.

Wednesday's game also has playoff implications as the Region XI Tournament begins in less than a week. The Blackhawks currently sit in third place in the league, one game ahead of the Tigers with a 3-3 conference record and are 20-8 overall. MCC is in fourth place at 2-4 and 17-11 overall, one game ahead of last place Northeast Community College (14-11/1-5).

Indian Hills Community College has secured the top overall seed in the playoffs with a 6-1 league mark while Iowa Western Community College is currently in second place with a 4-3 mark. The four vs. five seed matchup will be held on Monday, Feb. 22 at the higher seed while the remainder of the tournament resumes on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

With two conference games to go for MCC, Southeastern, and Northeast, along with one game remaining for both Indian Hills and Iowa Western, the final four seeds in the Region XI Tournament are up for grabs.

CURRENT ICCAC STANDINGS

MCC looks to exact revenge on the Blackhawks after Southeastern took down the Tigers 74-70 in Burlington, IA on Jan. 30. Amir Maddred scored 14 points for the Tigers in the loss while Tyler Miller added 12. The Blackhawks were led by Briheam Anthony and Sam McDaniel at 15 points apiece.

Prior to the Jan. 30 meeting, the last matchup between the two teams saw MCC upset the Blackhawks 75-72 in the 2015 Region XI Tournament.

Southeastern is scoring the fewest points in the ICCAC at 78.7 points per game, but are also allowing the fewest points at 64.1 per contest.
