Four players selected to men's basketball All-Region team

Four members of the Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team have been named to the NJCAA Division I All-Region XI team. The Tigers placed four players on the Honorable Mention squad.

All four players that earned the postseason honor are sophomores- Vincent Lasley (Tama, IA/South Tama), Amir Maddred (Camden, NJ/Camden), Tyler Miller (Louisville, KY/22ft Academy), and Guilherme Verardo (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Esporte Clube Pinheiros).

Lasley led the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in rebounding with 7.8 rebounds per contest after starting 27 games in his final season at MCC. Lasley also averaged 8.6 points per game on 50.5 percent shooting from the floor. The sophomore also recorded five double-doubles on the season.

Maddred led the Tigers in scoring on the year, averaging 10.3 points per contest after reaching double-figures in 19 games this year. Maddred's 54.7 field goal percentage was the sixth-best mark in the conference. The sophomore closed out his career with 554 points and 281 rebounds. Maddred finished his two-year stint at MCC shooting exactly 50.0 percent from the floor.

Miller served as the Tigers' primary ball-handler, leading the team with 4.1 assists per game which ranked fourth in the ICCAC. Miller's 1.7 steals per game were good enough for second in the league this season. Miller also added 8.5 points over the course of the season. In two full seasons as a Tiger, Miller made 59 career starts and scored 366 career points to go along with 190 assists.

Verardo closed out his MCC career as one of the top three-point shooters in recent memory. The sophomore averaged 9.4 points per game for the 2015-16 season after connecting on 67 three-point shots, second-most in the ICCAC. Verardo reached double-figures nine times on the year, including a career-high 27 points in a 78-68 win over Western Iowa Tech on Feb. 4. Verardo finished his career with 141 made three-point shots for a total of 510 career points.
