Tigers fall in overtime to Iowa Central

Fort Dodge, IA—Two late goals, including an overtime game-winner, sunk the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team 2-1 against Iowa Central Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Leading 1-0, the Tigers allowed a goal in the 88th minute in regulation to force an extra period, the team's second overtime match of the season. The two sides remained deadlocked until the Tritons struck with a goal in the 98th minute to drop MCC.

After 71 scoreless minutes, Charles Huberty (Champlin, MN/Prairie Seeds) put the Tigers ahead with a goal in the 72nd minute after corralling a long pass into the middle of the field. The lead appeared to be enough until the Tritons netted the equalizer with just two minutes to play.

The game is the second 2-1 contest between the two team's this year, but Iowa Central's victory on Sept. 13 was overturned in favor of MCC due to an ineligible Triton player.

The Tigers remain in second place despite the loss with a 6-3-0 conference record and are now 10-5-0 overall. Iowa Central moves into fourth place in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 5-4-0 league record.

MCC returns home to take on Iowa Lakes Community College at 4:00 PM on Oct. 15.
