The Marshalltown High School to Marshalltown Community College pipeline continues as MCC head coach Rafael Martinez inked Ellis Buchwald to a National Letter of Intent on Friday afternoon with his parents and high school coach in attendance.

Buchwald joins former Bobcat teammates Martin Chavarria (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown), Jose Cordova (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown), David Gomez (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) and Agustin Ortiz (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) for the upcoming 2015 season at MCC.

"I'm joining four former teammates of mine," said Buchwald, "and it's just nice to be able to join them on the field again after playing together for several years, including winning the state cup together in 2012."

Buchwald is a senior midfielder at Marshalltown High School who has attended his fair share of games at MCC over the years.

"I got to see how the team played and it was just a good fit for me," Buchwald added. "Staying local was a big factor in deciding on my future. Coach Martinez seems to let his players play and he knows what he's doing out there and it makes it a good fit for me."

"I know how competitive the collegiate level can be but I've competed with players of all ages over the years. I know I can get the ball moving and create plays on the field at this level."

Martinez has found success in recruiting players from the local high school since his arrival at MCC. Buchwald sees the continued success of former Bobcat players at MCC and is proud to be a part of that tradition. "I look forward to continuing and building that relationship between the high school and college."

Buchwald is leaning towards a degree in Business Administration or Computer Science.
