Iowa Western slows down MCC offense

Council Bluffs, IA—After racking up 57 runs in three games on Wednesday, the Marshalltown Community College softball offense came to a standstill against Division I opponent Iowa Western Community College on Thursday, dropping a pair of games 8-0 and 9-1. Lexie Biehl (Maquoketa, IA/Maquoketa) drove in the lone run.

The Tigers (9-6) won three games on Wednesday at the Minnesota Classic by an average of 18 runs per game, but the bats fell silent against the Reivers on Thursday. The Tigers put one base runner on in the opening frame but that was the last threat the offense provided as MCC went down in order over the next five innings.

The Tigers stranded runners in the first two innings of game two and finally broke through with a run in the third as Biehl doubled to drive in Brooke Dunkin (Bussey, IA/Twin Cedars) for MCC's lone run, but the Reivers held a 3-1 lead. Iowa Western continued to pull away, scoring six runs over the next three innings to take down MCC in the five-inning contest.

Biehl has recorded at least one RBI in seven of the team's last 11 games and has hit safely in 13 of the team's 15 games this year.

The Tigers continue cross-division play with a pair of games at Indian Hills Community College on Saturday afternoon. Sunday's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener against North Iowa Area Community College has been rescheduled to April 13.
