Softball drops a pair at DMACC

Boone, IA—The Marshalltown Community College softball team dropped a pair of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) games to Des Moines Area Community College on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers lost a late lead in game one to fall 6-2 and were held scoreless in a 3-0 loss in the nightcap.

The Tigers opened up game one with a 1-0 lead in game one as Sarah Wilson (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) drove in Lexie Biehl (Maquoketa, IA/Maquoketa) to get on the board. Biehl led off the third inning with her second straight hit but a double play cleared the bases. Wilson and Tacie Blunk (Boone, IA/Boone) hit back-to-back singles and Wilson came around to score on a McKenna Hotopp (State Center, IA/West Marshall) batted ball.

The Bears chipped away at the MCC lead with a run in the fifth but came through with five runs in the sixth inning to pull away.

Wilson finished the game with seven strikeouts on the afternoon while collecting two hits at the plate. Biehl and Blunk also recorded two-hit games.

The offense dwindled in game two as the Tigers picked up just three hits, two coming from Biehl. The DMACC pitching staff struck out 15 MCC batters to keep the Tigers scoreless. Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) relieved starter Brianna James (Lynnville, IA/Lynnville-Sully) and struck out seven batters in 3.2 innings of work.

With the four hits, Biehl upped her ICCAC-leading average to .543 on the year.

The Tigers travel to Columbus, NE for the Central Community College Tournament. MCC will play four games between Friday and Saturday.
