Tigers take two league wins behind Wilson's shutouts

Estherville, IA—Sarah Wilson's (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) dominance in the circle continued as the sophomore tossed back-to-back complete game shutouts as the Marshalltown Community College softball team defeated Iowa Lakes Community College 8-0 in both games of Saturday's doubleheader. Wilson improved to 12-7 overall on the year.

Making her second and third starts in the last two days, Wilson allowed just three hits total on the afternoon. The sophomore struck out six batters in the opener and five more in game two to give the Tigers two Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) wins and keep the team with a firm hold of fourth place in the league standings.

MCC scored three runs in both the first and second innings for an early six-run advantage. Wilson kept the Laker batters off balance all afternoon, not allowing a base runner to reach third base in the opener. Tacie Blunk (Boone, IA/Boone) went 4-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI while MCC's 1-2 hitters, Brooke Dunkin (Bussey, IA/Twin Cedars) and Lexie Biehl (Maquoketa, IA/Maquoketa) went a combined 5-7 with four runs scored.

The Tigers picked up their fourth straight win in game two backed by another strong outing from Wilson. The sophomore allowed just one base runner through the first four innings of play. Wilson's five strike outs all came in the final three innings of action.

Dunkin picked up another two hits in the nightcap to go along with three stolen bases while Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) and Wilson each went 3-4 at the dish.

Wilson has now pitched 23 consecutive innings of scoreless ball, spanning five appearances. The sophomore has struck out 33 batters during the run.

MCC travels to Mount Mercy College to take on the program's JV squad for two games on Monday afternoon before returning home for two ICCAC games vs. Southwestern Community College on Wednesday.
