The Marshalltown Community College Softball team is set to open Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders. The Tigers host Iowa Western Community College on Friday afternoon and No. 13 Indian Hills Community College on Saturday at the Marshalltown Softball Complex.

The Tigers are off to the best start in school history, dating back to the 2003 season, with a 13-4 record. The previous best mark was set by the 2012 team that started the season 11-4. MCC is coming off a 2015 season that saw the Tigers go 0-16 in conference play in the team's inaugural season at the Division I level, including four losses to both Iowa Western and Indian Hills.

The revamped Tigers look to disrupt the league standings right off the bat against Iowa Western on Friday. After starting the year 9-14, the Reivers have won eight consecutive games. Iowa Western is led by Jade Lee's .524 batting average. As a team, the Reivers have a 4.99 earned run average. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 PM.

Indian Hills, ranked No. 13 in the first NJCAA Division I Softball poll, has jumped out to a 17-8 record on the year. Mallory Madsen's .481 batting average and Kacey Duffield's nine home runs pace the Warriors on the year. The Tigers will square off with Indian Hills at 1:00 PM on Saturday.

MCC has been led by an array of contributors on the year in all facets. In the circle, Paige Taylor (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) has posted a 6-3 record with a league-best 2.02 earned run average and 70 strikeouts. Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney), this week's ICCAC Pitcher of the Week, has also performed well, posting a 5-0 record with a 2.58 earned run average.

Offensively, Sarah Ghee (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle) this week's ICCAC Hitter of the Week, ranks third in the conference with a .462 batting average and has driven in 16 runs and scored 15 more. Raini Hilmer's (Dysart, IA/Union) .685 slugging percentage ranks fourth in the ICCAC and her team-high four home runs ranks sixth in the league.
